Introduction
When we collect copper ore and then use the smelting skills of mining to make copper ore into copper ingots Electrolytic purification of copper: blister copper (containing 99% copper) is pre-made into thick plates as anodes, and pure copper is made into thin sheets As the cathode, a mixture of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and copper sulfate (CuSO4) is used as the electrolyte. After electrification, copper dissolves from the anode into copper ions (Cu) and moves to the cathode. After reaching the cathode, electrons are obtained and pure copper (also known as electrolytic copper) is precipitated at the cathode. Impurities in blister copper, such as iron and zinc, which are more active than copper, will dissolve together with copper as ions (Zn and Fe).
Compared with copper ions, these ions are not easy to be precipitated, so as long as the potential difference is properly adjusted during electrolysis, the precipitation of these ions on the anode can be avoided. Impurities less reactive than copper, such as gold and silver, are deposited on the bottom of the cell. The copper plate produced in this way is called “electrolytic copper” by Jiangxi Jinhui Copper Industry Co., Ltd., which is of high quality and can be used to make electrical products. The sediment deposited at the bottom of the electrolytic cell is called “anode slime”, which is rich in gold and silver, which is very valuable, and has extremely high economic value when taken out and reprocessed.
